Gift is Hong Kong pop star Gigi Leung’s first studio album of original material in almost three years. (Her 2006 album, “Love Songs for Myself” was an ode to the end of her seven-year relationship with fellow actor Ekin Cheng.) While most mainstream albums by Cantopop stars are usually little more than slickly-produced vanity projects, Leung’s previous efforts have been known for the occasional hidden gems. This latest release, however, is a disappointing return to music for Leung, as it fails to impress with its lackluster selection of tunes.
